Sayer Card: Balance Check, Price, Recharge and Sharjah Bus Fares
The Sayer card for Sharjah buses: balance check, price, where to buy and recharge, the monthly Grey card, and Sharjah bus fares.
The Sayer card is the bus card for Sharjah's city and intercity buses, run by Mowasalat for the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority. You can still pay in cash, but the Sayer fare is lower: AED 7 with a Sayer card and AED 9 in cash on Mowasalat's fare list (Mowasalat).
How to check your Sayer card balance
There's no Sayer app that we know of, so there are two ways to see your balance. When you tap on or top up on the bus, the driver's machine prints a receipt showing what's left on the card. Or insert the card at a Sayer machine at Al Jubail Bus Station, which shows the balance without you buying anything.
If you travel often, keep your last receipt so you know when to top up.
Sharjah bus fares
Mowasalat lists a city bus fare of AED 7 with a Sayer card and AED 9 in cash. Route 99 to Sharjah Airport, for example, charges these amounts (Mowasalat). Other guides give AED 6 and AED 8, so the fare may vary by route; the receipt shows what you paid.
Intercity buses cost more, and each emirate prices its own. From Al Jubail, Gulf News lists AED 27 to Ras Al Khaimah, AED 35 to Al Ain and AED 30 to 35 to Abu Dhabi. The Dubai E routes cost AED 10 to 12 and take only a nol card. See Sharjah intercity bus routes.
Card types
The Blue card is pay as you go, for anyone. It saves AED 2 a trip compared with cash. It's sold with credit already on it; a card with about AED 45 of credit has been reported at AED 50, but check the current options when you buy.
The Grey card is a monthly pass with unlimited travel for 30 days, reported at AED 225. For two trips a day it costs less than paying each time.
Some people travel free or at a discount, including People of Determination and social assistance beneficiaries. Mowasalat's exempt categories page lists who qualifies.

Where to buy and recharge
You can buy a Sayer card and top it up in cash from the driver on any Mowasalat bus; you get a receipt with the new balance. You can also buy and top up at the counters and machines at Al Jubail Bus Station. Carry cash: top-ups on the bus are cash only.
If you lose the card
An unregistered card is like cash, and the balance can't be recovered. Ask Mowasalat or SRTA whether you can register your card to protect the balance.
