More about paying in Dubai
Nol card guide: card types, where to buy and how to top up.
On a Silver nol card: AED 3 within one zone, AED 5 across two adjacent zones and AED 7.50 for more than two zones. A paper Red ticket costs AED 4, 6 or 8.50, and Gold Class costs double the Silver fare.
QWhat is the minimum bus fare in Dubai?
AED 3 on a Silver or Personal nol card for a trip within one zone, or AED 4 on a Red ticket. Buses use the same zone fares as the Metro.
QHow do Dubai fare zones work?
Dubai is divided into 7 fare zones. Every Metro station, Tram stop and bus stop is in one of them. You pay by how many zones your journey touches, counting the zone you start in and the one you finish in. The zone number is shown on station and stop signs, and the RTA S’hail app shows the fare for a trip.
QDo I pay twice if I change from the Metro to a bus?
No, as long as you tap in on the bus within 30 minutes of tapping out of the Metro. The trips are then charged as one journey by the total zones. A journey can include up to 3 transfers and last up to 180 minutes.
QIs a monthly nol pass worth it?
A 30-day Silver pass costs AED 140 for 1 zone, AED 230 for 2 zones and AED 350 for all zones. If you make two journeys across more than two zones on about 24 days a month, the all-zones pass is cheaper. Use the calculator above for your own trips. Monthly passes need a registered card.
QDo children pay?
Children aged 5 and under travel free. Students, Senior Emiratis/Citizens and Social Affairs cardholders get 50% off with a registered Personal card, and People of Determination travel free.
