Commuting in Sharjah? Here is the complete breakdown of 2025 bus fares, Sayer Card discounts, and the upcoming smart payment systems launching soon.

By Rifat Hossain

Latest Changes to Sharjah Bus Fares & Payment Methods

Sharjah bus fares have maintained a stable pricing structure throughout 2025, offering commuters consistent and affordable travel options across the emirate. While the standard sharjah bus ticket price remains steady, the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) is aggressively modernizing the payment infrastructure. With the introduction of the Bus-On-Demand service and the upcoming launch of a smart public transport system in early 2025, passengers can expect a shift from cash-heavy transactions to seamless digital experiences.

This guide details the current fare breakdown for December 2025, the economic benefits of the Sayer Card, and the rules regarding bus violations and fine inquiries.

Current Bus Fares in Sharjah (December 2025)

The Sharjah public transport system operates on a dual-payment model that incentivizes the use of smart cards over cash.

Standard Fare Structure Commuters can choose between paying a premium for single-trip cash tickets or enjoying significant discounts via the Sayer Card.

Payment MethodFare per TripDiscountBest User Profile
Cash TicketAED 8NoneTourists / One-time users
Sayer Blue CardAED 625%Occasional Commuters
Sayer Grey CardAED 225 / MonthUnlimitedDaily Commuters

Sayer Card Pricing Strategy The Sayer Card is Sharjah's dedicated smart card. Using it automatically applies a 25% discount to your fare, reducing the cost from AED 8 to AED 6.

  • Blue Card (Pay-As-You-Go): Available in packages of AED 50, AED 95, or AED 185. Each package includes a one-time AED 5 card fee (inclusive of VAT), which is refunded upon future recharges.
  • Grey Card (Subscription): For AED 225 per month, users get unlimited travel for 30 days.
    • Economic Decision: If you take 38 or more trips per month, the Grey Card is cheaper than the Blue Card.

Intercity Bus Fares: Sharjah to Dubai

Traveling between emirates requires a different payment approach. Unlike local routes, Sharjah to Dubai intercity buses operated by the RTA (Routes E303, E306, E307, E308) exclusively accept the Dubai Nol Card.

RouteDestinationFare (Nol Card)
E303Union SquareAED 12
E306Al GhubaibaAED 10-12
E307Deira City CentreAED 12
E308Stadium Metro (New)AED 12

Note: Sayer Cards and Nol Cards are not interchangeable. You must use a Sayer Card for local Sharjah buses and a Nol Card for Dubai intercity buses.

New Payment Methods & Smart Systems (2025)

Sharjah is transitioning toward digital payment solutions to enhance passenger convenience.

Bus-On-Demand Service

Bus-On-Demand is a flexible, app-based minibus service that allows users to request personalized pickups within 10 designated zones.

  • Base Fare: AED 8 (First Passenger).
  • Additional Passenger: AED 6.
  • Payment: Credit/Debit card or digital wallet via the Mowasalat App only (No cash).

Upcoming Smart Public Transport System

Scheduled for launch in early 2025, this initiative will introduce a revolutionary upgrade to the current payment infrastructure. Planned features include:

  • Contactless Payments: Support for EMV bank cards.
  • Digital Wallets: Integration with Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Mobile App: Real-time tracking and direct fare payment.

Bus Violation Rules and Fine Inquiry

Strict conduct rules are enforced on all public transport vehicles to ensure passenger safety and comfort.

Common Bus Violations

  • Fare Evasion: Traveling without paying or using an invalid card.
  • Smoking: Strictly prohibited on all Mowasalat buses.
  • Disorderly Conduct: Harassment, fighting, or loud behavior.

Sharjah Bus Fine Check Process To check for violations, you must use the SRTA Fine Inquiry service.

  1. Visit the official SRTA Website.
  2. Navigate to the "Fine Inquiry" section.
  3. Enter your Driving License Number, Vehicle Plate, or Traffic Code.
  4. Violations can be paid online via the portal or at SRTA service centers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cheapest way to travel on Sharjah buses?

The cheapest method is using a Sayer Blue Card, which costs AED 6 per trip (a 25% discount off the AED 8 cash fare). For heavy users, the Grey Card (AED 225/month) offers the best value.

Can I recharge my Sayer Card online?

Currently, there is no online recharge option. You must recharge on the bus (cash to driver), at Al Jubail Bus Station counters, or via ticket vending machines. Online recharge capabilities are expected with the smart system launch in early 2025.

Is the Sayer Card valid on the E308 route to Dubai?

No. Route E308 is an RTA intercity route and requires a Dubai Nol Card. Sayer Cards are valid only on local Mowasalat buses within Sharjah.

Do children travel for free?

Children aged 5 years and below travel for free when accompanied by an adult. Children older than 5 must pay the full adult fare.

Your Next Commute Step

If you are a regular commuter still paying cash, switch to a Sayer Blue Card immediately. You will save AED 2 on every single trip. Visit the driver on your next bus ride with AED 50 cash to purchase your starter card and begin saving instantly.
