Doha Metro: Cards, Fares, and Passes Explained

The Doha Metro uses a simple, cashless system based on travel cards. This guide explains the different types of cards, the cost of travel, and how to save money with passes.

💳 Types of Travel Cards

There are three main types of travel cards to choose from.

1. Standard Travel Card

This is the most common card, suitable for most commuters.

  • Cost: QR 10 (card purchase, no travel credit included).
  • Usage: Grants access to Standard and Family class carriages.
  • Validity: 5 years.
  • Top-Up: Can be recharged online, via the app, or at station vending machines.

2. Goldclub Travel Card

For those who prefer a premium travel experience.

  • Cost: QR 100 (card purchase, no travel credit included).
  • Usage: Grants access to the more spacious and luxurious Goldclub carriages.
  • Validity: 5 years.

3. Limited Use Paper Pass

Ideal for tourists or infrequent travelers.

  • Cost: Varies based on pass type (e.g., QR 6 for a Standard Day Pass).
  • Usage: Disposable ticket for a single day or a specific number of journeys.
  • Rechargeable: No. This is a single-use product.

💸 Journey Fares

The fare structure is simple and affordable.

Standard/FamilyQR 2QR 6
GoldclubQR 10QR 30
  • A single journey includes transferring between lines at interchange stations.
  • A Day Pass allows for unlimited trips within the network until 1:00 AM.

🔄 How to Recharge Your Card

Keeping your card topped up is easy.

  1. Qatar Rail Website/App: The most convenient method. Register your card and top up online.
  2. Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs): Located at all metro stations. You can pay by card.
  3. Station Ticket Counters: Pay by cash or card at the counter.
  4. Licensed Retailers: Outlets like Al Meera, Lulu, and Carrefour offer top-up services for standard cards.

⚠️ Important: After an online top-up, it may take up to 15 minutes for the balance to reflect. You must also tap your card at a validator (either at a gate or a TVM) within 30 days to complete the transaction.

📅 Metro Passes for Frequent Travelers

If you use the metro regularly, a pass can offer significant savings. Passes must be loaded onto a registered Standard Travel Card.

Monthly PassQR 120Daily commuters, offering the best value.
Annual PassQR 990Long-term residents for maximum savings.

Note: Passes are only available for Standard/Family class travel. Goldclub does not currently offer long-term passes.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum recharge amount?

The minimum top-up amount is QR 10.

How do I check my card balance?

You can check your balance at any TVM, via the Qatar Rail app (for registered cards), or by asking at a station ticket counter.

What happens if I lose my registered card?

If your card was registered, you can report it lost at a Goldclub office. A replacement can be issued for a small fee (QR 10 for a standard card), and your remaining balance can be transferred.
