Navigating Lost and Found in Qatar: A Practical Guide for Travellers and Commuters

Losing a personal item while travelling is stressful, especially in a fast-moving place like Qatar. Whether it’s a phone left on the Doha Metro, a wallet dropped in a taxi, or baggage misplaced at the airport, knowing the right steps can save you time and frustration.

Qatar has clear lost and found systems across public transport, airports, airlines, and shopping malls. This guide walks you through exactly what to do, with a special focus on public transport, which is where most losses happen.

Lost Items on Public Transport in Qatar

Qatar’s public transport network is modern and efficient, but busy stations and vehicles mean items can be forgotten. The recovery process depends on where you were travelling.

Doha Metro and Lusail Tram (Qatar Rail)

The Doha Metro is widely used by residents and visitors, making it one of the most common places for lost items.

  • If you’re still at the station:
Go straight to the information desk inside the metro or tram station. Staff can check recent reports or contact station control.

  • If you’ve already left:
Call Qatar Rail’s customer service hotline at 105 to report the item.

You can also find updates and service details on the official Qatar Rail website:

Karwa Taxi, Karwa Bus, and Metroexpress (Mowasalat)

If you lost something in a Karwa taxi, bus, or Metroexpress, contact Mowasalat as soon as possible.

  • Phone: 800-8294
  • Email: [email protected]

To speed things up, provide:

  • Taxi or vehicle plate number
  • Date and time of the trip
  • Trip receipt (if available)

Uber in Qatar

If you were travelling with Uber, the process is handled entirely through the app.

  1. Open the Uber app
  2. Tap Activity
  3. Select the trip
  4. Choose Find lost item
  5. Submit a request to contact the driver

This system works best when reported quickly.

Lost Items at Airports and on Flights

Airport lost and found procedures in Qatar depend on whether the item was lost on the plane or inside the terminal.

Qatar Airways Lost and Found

If the item was lost on a Qatar Airways flight:

  • Report it via their lost and found portal or email [email protected]
  • Unclaimed items are usually kept for up to 30 days
  • Passports and IDs are handed to airport authorities

Hamad International Airport (HIA)

For items lost inside Hamad International Airport:

  • If you’re still at the airport: Visit an HIA information desk
  • If you’ve already left:
    • Phone: +974 4010 6666
    • Email: [email protected]

Items are generally stored for 30 days before being donated to charity.

Include:

  • Airline and flight number
  • Date of loss
  • Brief description of the item

Reporting Lost Items to Local Authorities

For valuable or sensitive items such as passports, official documents, or large sums of money, it’s best to file a report at the nearest police station.

Major police stations in Doha include:

  • Al Sadd
  • Al Rayyan
  • Al Wakrah
  • Madinat Khalifa

You may be asked for identification and a description of the lost item.

Final Tips for Recovering Lost Items in Qatar

  • Report the loss as soon as you notice it
  • Keep receipts, booking confirmations, and trip details
  • Be specific when describing the item
  • Follow up if you don’t hear back within a few days

Qatar’s transport and service providers are generally responsive, and many lost items are successfully returned. Acting quickly makes all the difference.
