Doha Metro Expansion: What to Know About the Upcoming Blue Line

The Doha Metro, which transformed public transport in the capital since its launch in 2019, is gearing up for its next phase of growth. Qatar Rail's long-term plans include a fourth line, the Blue Line. As of October 2026 it is listed as planned, and no construction start or opening date has been officially announced.

Today the Red, Green and Gold lines serve 37 stations over about 76 kilometres. The Blue Line would be the network's first new line.

What has been published so far:

• Route: between Hamad International Airport Terminal 2 and the West Bay area (Funduq Park in some plans).
• Length: Approximately 17-18 kilometers.
• Stations: about 14. Station names and locations have not been confirmed.

📈 The Big Picture: Future Expansion

The original Doha Metro master plan included further phases, with some reports mentioning around 60 additional stations across new lines and extensions. Qatar Rail has not published a current timeline for them.

This expansion aligns with Qatar's National Vision 2030, which emphasizes sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions by encouraging the use of public transport over private vehicles.
