Qatar's Public Bus Infrastructure Programme: New Bus Stops and Stations
The planned 2,600 bus stops, eight bus stations and electric bus charging, with sources.
Ashghal (the Public Works Authority) and Mowasalat (Karwa) have been building new bus stops, bus stations and electric-bus charging under Qatar's Public Bus Infrastructure Programme.
Correction, October 2026: an earlier version of this article presented planned numbers as finished work. The figures below are the published plans; we haven't found a confirmed completion report.
What was planned
- About 2,600 bus stops, the first phase due around October 2022 (The Peninsula).
- Eight bus stations, at Al Sudan, the Industrial Area, Al Wakra, Education City, Lusail, Al Gharrafa, Msheireb and West Bay.
- Electric bus charging at four bus depots, the eight bus stations and 12 Metro stations (ABB).
- 741 electric buses, delivered for the 2022 World Cup and then used on regular routes (Ministry of Transport).
What it means for riders
- More sheltered stops closer to where people live and work.
- Bus stations that link with the Metro.
- Quieter, cleaner electric buses on many routes.
