Kuwait Bus Fare and Passes: KPTC, CityBus and Mowasalat (KGL) Prices
Kuwait bus fares: 250 fils and up a trip, CityBus monthly passes at KD 15 or KD 11, ride bundles, the KPTC three-month pass, Mowasalat (KGL), and paying in the app.
Kuwait's public buses are run by three operators: KPTC, the state company; CityBus; and Mowasalat, also known as KGL (Kuwait Times, August 2023). Each sells its own tickets and passes, and a pass from one doesn't work on another's buses. A single trip on a city route usually costs 250 to 350 fils.
CityBus fares and passes
CityBus publishes its prices in its FAQ (CityBus):
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| Single trip, most routes | From 250 fils |
| 12 rides | KD 3 |
| 25 rides | KD 6 |
| Monthly pass, one route | KD 11 |
| Monthly pass, all routes | KD 15 |
CityBus also sells a daily pass, a weekly pass, a three-month pass and an Airport Express pass for the X1, but the FAQ doesn't give their prices. Ordinary passes don't cover the Airport Express routes. There are no student or senior fares.
You can buy tickets and passes in the Citybuskw app, or a day pass from the driver. In the app you pay from an e-wallet, which you top up by KNET, debit or credit card, or Apple Pay, with a minimum top-up of KD 3. You can also top it up with cash from a CityBus inspector or at the pass office. On the bus you scan the QR code in the app at the reader. See Kuwait bus apps for the app itself.
KPTC fares and passes
KPTC doesn't publish a fare list on its website, which says it's still under development (KPTC). KPTC has advertised a three-month pass for all routes at KD 25 on its Facebook page (KPTC on Facebook), but the post isn't dated, so check that it's still offered.
We couldn't find a published address or opening hours for KPTC's pass office. KPTC's hotline is 1880001 and its main number is 22328866 (KPTC). Call before you go.
Mowasalat (KGL)
Mowasalat is a private bus company (Kuwait Times). We couldn't find a current, official list of its fares or passes. Blogs give monthly pass prices that disagree with each other, so we don't repeat them here. Ask the driver or Mowasalat directly.
Students and children
The operators' rules differ, and little is written down. In 2023 Kuwait Times reported that CityBus charges every passenger, with no student fare. KPTC and Mowasalat both said students under 18 ride free with a student ID, and KPTC drivers said children under 10 ride free. Kuwait Times found no published rule confirming this (Kuwait Times).
Changing buses
There's no shared ticket between operators, so if you change from a CityBus to a KPTC bus, or the other way, you pay again. On CityBus, the 12-ride bundle works out at 250 fils a ride, so it only saves money on routes that cost more than that.
