Qatar Rail Service Hours: Updated Doha Metro & Lusail Tram Timings [2026]

Planning your commute? Qatar Rail has updated its service hours. Here is the complete breakdown of the new timings for the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram, including Friday schedules and feeder services.

By Rifat Hossain

Qatar Rail Service Hours: Updated Doha Metro & Lusail Tram Timings

Whether you are a daily commuter catching the Red Line to West Bay or a visitor heading to Lusail for a weekend stroll, knowing the train schedule is essential for a smooth trip.

To accommodate the growing number of passengers and enhance city connectivity, Qatar Railways Company (Qatar Rail) has implemented an updated operational timetable. These changes, effective from January 1, are designed to give you more flexibility, especially during late nights and weekends.

Here is everything you need to know about the current service hours for the Doha Metro, Lusail Tram, and their feeder services.

🕒 New Operating Hours at a Glance

The updated schedule is great news for night owls and travelers catching late flights from Hamad International Airport (HIA). The extended hours mean you have more time to explore the city without worrying about rushing for the "last train."

🚇 Doha Metro Timings

The Doha Metro (Red, Green, and Gold Lines) now operates on the following schedule:

  • Saturday to Thursday: 05:30 AM – 11:59 PM (Standard) / Extended to 01:00 AM based on new update
  • Fridays: 02:00 PM – 11:59 PM (Standard) / Extended start at 09:00 AM and end at 01:00 AM based on new update

Revised Schedule for 2025/2026:

  • Saturday – Thursday: 06:00 AM to 01:00 AM
  • Friday: 09:00 AM to 01:00 AM

📝 Note: While standard hours have historically started later on Fridays, the new update significantly improves morning accessibility on the holy day, with services now kicking off at 9:00 AM instead of the afternoon.

🚋 Lusail Tram Timings

Connecting the varied districts of Lusail City, the Tram operates with slightly different timings to sync with the Metro:

  • Saturday – Thursday: 05:30 AM to 01:30 AM
  • Friday: 02:00 PM to 01:30 AM

The extra 30 minutes on the Tram allow you to finish your journey within Lusail after getting off the last Metro train.

🚌 Metrolink & Metroexpress (Feeder Services)

One of the best features of Qatar’s transport network is the "Last Mile" connectivity. You don’t need to worry about being stranded at the station.

The metrolink (feeder buses) and metroexpress (ride-sharing shuttles) have adjusted their schedules to align perfectly with the new train timings.

  • If the Metro is running, the buses are running.
  • The last feeder bus departs after the last train arrives, ensuring you can get to your doorstep.

Why the Change?

This shift in timings isn't just about adding minutes; it's about lifestyle. Qatar Rail’s decision reflects a commitment to:

  1. Convenience: Easier access for early risers and late-night socializers.
  2. Airport Connectivity: Better options for travelers flying out of HIA late at night.
  3. Tourism: More time for visitors to explore attractions like Souq Waqif, Katara, and Lusail Boulevard without cutting the evening short.

💡 Pro Tips for a Smooth Journey

  • Check the App: While these are the standard operating hours, maintenance or special events (like National Day or major sports tournaments) can affect timings. Always check the Qatar Rail App for real-time updates.
  • Travel Cards: Ensure your Travel Card has enough credit before you tap in to avoid delays at the gates.
  • Friday Mornings: Remember the new 9:00 AM start on Fridays—perfect for heading to a brunch or early prayer, but the metro is still closed in the very early morning hours of Friday.
